2010 Stampede Ultra4 Race— Qualifier for "King of the Hammers", Pt.
3!

Part 3: The Rock Crawling!
The most versatile race vehicles in the world are the Ultra4 cars! Designed for
both desert racing and rock crawling, these high horsepower, four-wheel drive, long travel
suspension hybrids represent the ultimate 4WD race car.
Horsepower in the 500-600 range is
just the beginning. Exotic, high performance gear drives, axles and suspension systems
separate winners from other competitors. Whether independent front and rear suspension or beam axles at each
end, the Ultra4 vehicles articulate widely and hurdle the worst terrain.
In the premier Stampede
Race, the 22 miles of desert speeds and galloping were offset by one of the most severe rock
crawling sections imaginable. Intended to legitimately qualify racers for the 2011 'King of the Hammers' Race
at Johnson Valley, California, the 66-mile course (three 22-mile laps) has been described by many drivers as
the toughest race they have ever run. The rock crawling area, in particular, proved more than a
facsimile of King of the Hammers!
View this video of the rock
crawling section. See if you agree with the drivers. When only 18 racers, in a field of 55, cross
the finish line, there must be something in the way. The Stampede Race rock pile easily matches the
"KOH" terrain!
