HD Video Action: The 2011
Stampede Ultra4 Race at Reno, Nevada!

The 2011 Stampede
Ultra4 Race delivered plenty of action! A qualifier for the 2012 King of the Hammers, this race followed the
reputation of the 2010 inaugural event: tougher that the King of the Hammers, challenging in widely varied
terrain—and unpredictable.
There are eight HD videos covering the 2011
Stampede Ultra4 Race. See the following
pages!
4WD Mechanix
Magazine interviewed Shannon Campbell on Thursday before the race and greeted him at
Saturday morning's starting grid. The Ultra4 champion planned to give his best, as usual, and
indicated all would go well if his "junk doesn't break"..."Junk" is the euphemism for mechanical troubles,
and no car is exempt. Even the exceptional design, construction and maintenance of a Campbell
Enterprises' race car can suffer an unanticipated setback.
In 2010, the inaugural
Stampede Ultra4 Race, Campbell dominated the competition. 4WD Mechanix
Magazine video'd the rock pile and Shannon's iconic sweep of that brutal challenge. It
was predicted that Shannon Campbell would set the pace for the 2011 race. He qualified for the
number one starting position and launched into the Nevada desert at the green flag...(See the
'Staging and Start' HD video.)
This year, the magazine's HD video equipment headed up a rugged canyon. The racers were
well into the fast desert stretch when the lead cars hit this section. Shannon Campbell, in tight
contention, was at second place behind J.T. Taylor's #13 Torchmate car. At this stage, still in the first
lap, positions jocky. Both contenders were on their game.
Shannon zipped past the camcorder's view and headed up the steep canyon. We pursued on foot
with camcorder in hand, as the canyon pitched upward and narrowed. Several cars passed, headed to the fateful
rock "waterfall" area. See the HD video action on the following pages!

In the technical inspection and race staging videos, Robert Daly and Brad Falin enter the 2011 Stampede Ultra4
Race. This team from Fernley, Nevada, has been featured at the magazine for over a year and will compete at
the King of the Hammers. See the "Technical Inspection" video for an introduction to these
emerging Ultra4 competitors!
