February 10th, Johnson Valley, CA—Fast paced desert racing mixed with severe rock crawling—the Ultra4 trademark. This year's 2012 Griffin King of the Hammers Race attracted the best drivers in the sport plus newcomers like Robby Gordon, whose Baja history is legend. While Gordon tested his mettle, notable Ultra4 drivers Erik Miller, Rick Mooneyham and Shannon Campbell landed the 1st, 2nd and 3rd finishes in this grueling competition. In Ultra4 racing, "winning" means completing the course in the best time possible! Our coverage was widespread, and 4WD Mechanix Magazine captured HD video at both the race start and the treacherous 'Back Door' canyon. We congratulate each the Ultra4 racers—this is off-road racing's greatest challenge to date! Note: Many of the Ultra4 racers believe that the 2011 Stampede Ultra4 Race, a qualifier for the 2012 Griffin King of the Hammers Race, was easily as challenging as Johnson Valley.
